The Global theme (“Communities Make The Difference. Help End AIDS”) for the 2019 World AIDS Day Celebration, as it always been, was adopted by the country to reflect the Nations aspirations and strategies in the HIV/AIDS response.
In the light of the theme and on behalf of the President H.E Nana Akufo-Addo, Hon. Frema Opare mentioned that the President recognizes the invaluable contributions of the communities of persons living with /or affected by HIV/AIDS.. she took the opportunity to pay a special tribute to PLHIV who serve as Models of Hope in various Hospital facilities.
“These persons provide Psychosocial and Anti-retroviral Treatment and adherence counseling to newly diagnosed individuals. Your dedicated service remains pivotal for early initiation and retention on ART of these newly diagnosed persons who otherwise would have been lost”.
She further acknowledged the contribution of NGOs, faith-based organizations, traditional leaders, the media, professional bodies, the private sector and individual activists and all other stakeholders. Ghana as a country wouldn’t have achieved the progress so far in the National HIV Response without the valuable effort of the Civil Society.
